Ballpoint Pen Drawing - Art Movement & Artist

This is the pen sketch of the week. To see many picture of me drawing with a pen, please visit my other blog dedicated to this type of medium. It's at www.biro-sketch.blogspot.com

Drawing with a pen/ink has become an art-movement in the eyes of most ballpen-artist. So, If that is true, then I am also (in one way or the other) a part of 'Art History' because, It all started in the same century (100 years).

They are some people who are trying to 'cave a name for themselves' by editing Wikipidia pages of 'Ballpoint Pen Art' (inserting themselves)... We are in the *information/digital age*. If anyone is really interested in "Ballpoint Pen Art History And It's Origin", that person would search well and beyond Wikipidia.

We all know that if civilisation continues the way its going, hard-copy textbooks might go extinct... YEAH, JUST LIKE PHYSICAL ART MIGHT ONE DAY BE AS HISTORICAL AS AN OLD BENIN BRASS HEAD.

Nowadays, ordinary amateur YouTube video are capable of inciting an international uprising (that refuse to die off). An oblivious individual is able to build a website that MIGHT get a million hit (yes, it rarely happens).

We are in a age where (for example); you read an article that say smoking is unhealthy and another one pointing out the benefits of smoking (and when I say smoking I am talking about pot)

Just for the records, I know ballpoint pen would "live on" but just like anyother type of mediun like pencil.

Thanks you reading, please remember that the website is www.biro-sketch.blogspot.com
Have a Great Tuesday!

quitting blogging about art

Sometimes I ask myself; 'Am I dreaming? How can I ever wake up from my
dreams of selling my art online (as a Nigerian). Should I quite
blogging or should I intensify my effort?'

Then I find one of those blog posts where the author says something liker: "failour only happens when you quit"

Quitting isn't an option right now.

persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more
common than unsuccessful people with
talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is

Tools for making collage art (photo)

11days ago, I published a blog about my plans to make the largest collage I have ever made. {http://biro-sketch.blogspot.com/2012/08/getting-read-to-make-large-collage.html}.
Anyway, I haven't find the time to start (after-all, "Rome didn't burn in a day") but I intend to spend the rest of the day in the studio.

The above photo shows all the tools needed for the work (although, I would add some more 'cut-out little pieces of paper'). It is estimated that four thousand Little pieces of papers would be used to cover that cardboard).

Those little cut-out pieces of paper (as showed in the above picture), are actually part of some of my 'failed-painting attempts'. So I don't waste the used materials for the painting. Anyway, the last stage is to assemble the cut-out papers together in an orderly manner.

Thanks for visiting, I would upload the 'finished' work by Wednesday.

Getting ready to make a large collage artwork

I'm preparing to make the largest collage-art I have ever made in my life. It is just about one inch longer than its predecessor. Until now, the largest collage I have ever made was titled 'G-is-for-Jesus' and it was sold 4 years after her creation.

The size of the average cardboard paper (as sold in a book shop or art-supply-shop) is approximately 20.4 x 25.0 inches and I plan on making a 30 inches collage so I have to improvise (a way to attach 3 cardboard paper for the back).

The above photos are pictures of the job at different stages.

At the time I started the work, their was no light (electrical power supply) but currently, we have seen great improvement with the power supply (over here in Nigeria, West Africa). Funny because, just a few weeks ago, I published a blogs-post about the epileptic power supply at {www.biro-sketch.blogspot.com/2012/07/burning-midnight-candle.html}. May be the improvement might be due to Ramadan fasting.

If i can organise my time, this would be 'completed' in about a week from now but, I doubt if that is possible (because I am too busy at work, and when I close from work, I am usually too busy sleeping or doing some domestic or academic work)... So I forecast that the work would be done in about 2 weeks from now.

The next stage of the artwork would be to cut out the little pieces of paper that I would later glue together to form a collage artwork...
I am kind of excited about this particular artwork.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Twitter's Hashtag #tugis

Recently, I had the audacity to use the hashtag #tugis on almost all my twitter updates.

The purpose of using the hashtag #tugis was to associate the tag #tugis with the hashtag #art.

So, when a twitter user is searching for #art, he might notice that one of the displayed-result has an hashtag '#tugis' alongside '#art'. This might ignite his curiosity making him to search for the meaning of the hashtag #tugis.

Not quite a very smart idea (since too many people uses #art in their twitts).

My Lackadaisical Attitude Towards Blogging About My Art

If you observe the above image, you might be wondering why an artist (or blogger for that matter) only published one blog-post in a whole year.

I only made one blog-post in the year 2010 and 2011. In those years, I was attending university (living a very hard life in the school-village).

Just about every lazy artist I know are always 'armed' with an excuse why they 'could not'. My failure to blog doesn't mean I didn't make any artwork during those period. I was able to make a few but, I didn't have the means or time to publish them online.

I think every artist at one point in their life suffered from procrastination. Even Leonardo Da Vince was a great procrastinator... To get back on track, I might have to buy that Brian Tracy's book 'Eat That Frog' again (I alway lost the book).

As you can see, I am 'grammatically-challenged' so that's another reason why I postpone blogging BUT, this year; things must change.

The best time to start is... NOW!

Thanks for reading

Expiration of the studio website

Well, my studio website {tugis.com.ng} expires on the 26th June 2012 (yesterday). I don't know why the web-hosting company still display it.

I might renew it (before someone else takes the domain name) but I might abandon it and concentrate on my personal website www.ifekaterry.com.

Reasons, well, I'm broke to the bones LOL!

When I can't get something, I dispise the thing (as if I don't need it), then; I do not miss it (because I'm now better off without it).

The website has been around for over 3 years now, and I quickly designed if (from a blank page) within 2 hours. So, I have not invested too much time on it (Time is money. That is why we spend it) and right now, I meither have the time nor the money to maintain the dame thing.

Computer Glitch ~ Hindrance To Blogging

An unfortunate incident happened recently.

While my computer was shutting-down, the POWER went out (I live in Africa so electricity supply is unstable).

This caused my computer-system to crash. I tried to restore it but it did not work. The only option left was to format it (wipe clean the memory).

So I have lost some important documents including;
¤ Manuscripts for my updated websites (hours of re-design/template, photographic works, editing & write-ups),
¤ Irreplaceable pictures
¤ ebooks,
¤ PDF files
¤ and a few MP3
It was frustrating and painful because, it took me years to have those collections.

I'm almost depressed but not as bad as April 2011 when some bandits stole my notebook (mini laptop). I have been using an old fashion desktop + mobile phone ever since.

Tomorrow, I'm going to an internet cafe to download a lot of softwares set-up on my flash-drive. I need them to properlly use my system again.

Have You Ever Seen A Flying Peacock? {real Photo & abtract painting}

Not everyone knows that a peacock can fly.

Above, you can see a photograph I took at the back of my fathers house. It is a photo of a peacock before and during takeoff. I took the photograph this year whereas the abstract painting was done three (3) years agom

The abstract painting: 'ROSE PEACOCK' was made with three (3) colors to look like both a rose and a flying peacock (like the peacock in the above photograph). The wings of the painting are up-ward while those of the picture are down-wards. It was painted in 2008 (based on the colors of a survey at my formal website), it size is 27x36inches (oil on canvas). Someone suggested the name it "An Abstract Caricature of a Peacock" but I prefer the title: ROSE PEACOCK beacause it's shorter.

BoundlessGallery.com Is No More

Unfortunately, Boundlessgallery.com closed down yesterday (March 1, 2010). I was a member there until it closed. The newsletter we got from BG and its President explained that the website was not making enough money, and that the business model was no longer profitable. Anyway, I saw the newsletter one day to the closing date (we only had 24 hours to get over the shock). It is a very sad news. I can’t really understand how BG could fail (considering the fact that they worked very hard to give their best). It is clear that selling ORIGINAL art online is no longer an easy thing to do.

My personal opinion: It was UNNECESSARY! The administrators could keep the website opened and functional (if they wanted to) but it was not just worth their time (such activities are either for people who can look at it as a hobby or maybe an ‘idle’ person). Nevertheless, I am thankful to BG for the internet experience. Now that the ‘high-tech-art-website’ that I was so optimistic about is gone, I have to search for another website to market my work online (I mean a trusted e-commerce).

Anyway, boundlessgallery.com is ‘internet-history’ and so is my store their (Freeman.BoundlessGallery.com). Now I am left with the big task of editing my website of all the links to BG. I would work on that this month and while I am at it, I would just upload some new works. So expect my upgraded website by April.

CAST THE FIRST STONE: the tales of ‘I’ and the critical Down-Presser-Man

It as been said before, ‘forgive others and JAH will forgive you’._____ I would say, ‘forgive others and you have forgiven yourself.’

I am going to use a story to explain the symbols on this artwork. It is a collage. The following is not a true life story but an illustration that I only created to explain the art.

In a small village, there lived a chief that is suppose to be happy and contented with what he has, but the chief rather prefer to be critical about a man name Bob. Bob was an immigrant from a nearby village. Bob was also a hardworking guy who just want to make a living and put a roof over his head, but for some reason, Chief was always investigating and talking evil about Bob.

One faithful day, the chief decided to investigate and spy on Bob again. Upon getting to the house of Bob, he was surprise to met Bob at home and wanted to know his name. Yes, he always gossip about Bob and don’t even know his name (before now, he only referred to Bob as “the stranger”).

Bob being a Rasta, proudly hit his chest with his right hand and said “my name is I”.
The chief was surprise that Bob’s name is just a single letter, but thought to himself, “that most be how they name themselves in his formal village.”

[that is why on the artwork you can see the capital letter ‘I’ at the upper-right of the collage]

Later that evening, in a Towns-Meeting that Bob was not invited. The Chief tried (once more) to rally support against Bob. Remember that Bob told him that his name was ‘I’. So, the chief stood up to speak in which he said as follows;
“ ‘I’ is dangerous to this community, ‘I’ must be driven away, ‘I’ must go back, ‘I’ will bring you and your children much trouble beyond your imagination! ”

Wow! Everyone at the Towns-Meeting could not believe their ears. They were all amazed to hear what was coming out of his mouth. They thought he was speaking in the Jamaican style (the Rasta man usually say ‘I and I’ meaning ‘myself’, or ‘me’, or ‘I Am’). Anyway, because he is using the word ‘I’ to refer to Bob, it made it look as if he was talking of himself. So the people started thinking (REASONING) and discovered that truly, the chief is the real threat and not Bob, because, his bitterness was capable of coursing disunity.

So the people brought out the Holy Bible, and some historical document (searching for a judgment and Wisdom). So they found where it was written among the Divinely reviled Lyrics of the legendary Bob Marley (and ironically Bob the-stranger, has similar name with Bob Marley the-King-of-Reggae) and the song goes like;
“Don’t you look at me so smallish and say am going back. Who are you to judge me and the life that I live. I know that I am not perfect, and that I don’t need to be, so before you point your finger, make sure your hands are clean. Judge Not! Before you judge yourself! . . . The road of life is rocky and you may stumble too, So while you talk about me, somebody else is judging YOU.”

The people of the community shouted with passion and amazement “Indeed, Bob Marley was a Prophet of JAH, case closed!”

All of a sudden, some members of the community boldly came out to accuse the chief of many wrong deeds he had committed. But, later, after the chief apologized to Bob the-stranger, the community and Bob then decided not to punish the chief because the title of the song was ‘Judge Not’

Community
comm-unity
come-unity
come-unit
come-let-us-unit
A community is the coming together of people as a whole. JAH people must unit!

He who is without sin should cast the first stone.

The images on the artwork above are 2 images or symbols – The first one is the capital letter ‘I’, while the second one is an image of a critical-down-presser-man. The image of the critical-down-presser man is standing with one of his (left)hands on his head and the other is down/OPEN (kind of shaped like a heart).

The right hand is OPEN because he has just let go of the stone of unforgiveness. Look at the expression on the hand as it expresses Freedom, Ease, Relief and OPEN-mindedness. His left hand is on his head because he has just realized that he was an hypocrite and he has no right to condemning others who are just like him. This chief reminds me of that American-religious-leader that was always fighting against guys and lesbians, only to discover that he (the religious leader) use to patronize male prostitute and uses drug. He is robbing his head today saying to himself “Oh Nooooooooo.....”

Open your eyes and look within. Before you make that decision, check YOURSELF. Love will unit us, love is open-minded and gives people ‘the benefit of a doubt’. SOME people are doing ‘wrongs’ simple because they don’t know any better. Over look other people faults and the same would be done to you.

CONCLUTION: This artwork is a secret reminder to those who knows what is means. They call it PROJECTION; you only see in others that which is already in you!

Mental Roommate

This is a kind of portrait but it is the combination of two (2) faces forming one. If you take a look at the second image above. The one covered up with red, you would now notice a skull image. If you observe the image without the red cover, and the other dark image at the right of the screen is a side view of a head.

INTERPRETATION: The dark image at the right of your screen is a shadow life-form whispering in the ears of the second person that has consequently turned into a dry skeleton.

There are two (2) parts to everyone:
The human part and
The Devine part

For some people, the Divine part is of God and for others, it is of Satan. Here, I show what would happen to those whose divine part has been taken over by the Shadow being.

Pharaoh-ess

I started this artwork November 17, 2008. After four (4) days of painting, I totally lost my inspiration. I didn’t know what to do next, when to continue and, I lost my desire to paint. So I covered the painting with cloth (I live in Northern Nigeria and it is very dusty and sandy until the rains comes).

The idea behind the painting is to make an image of an African girl as a female-king and not a queen (who is just the wife of a king). I didn’t want to use gold or extreme facial makeup. . . . . . In high school I made a painting of a black pharaoh, so I wanted to make the cloth on her head to look like what a Pharaoh would put on his head. The cloth on her head is from a Yoruba traditional cloth called ‘Ashokay’ (Yoruba people are found in the western part of Nigeria).

Well, around that March-April period, I saw a bulletin from one of my MySpace friend titled something like; ‘Yoruba language has some similarity to that of ancient Egypt’ unfortunately, I couldn’t see the content of that bulletin because it was a video (and my internet connection is too slow to play YouTube videos).

The person that sent the bulleting usually sent these types of very educative and interesting bulleting. Sometimes (especially last year) the topic are sarcastic and I misunderstood there meaning (at first).

Anyway, I re-started the painting again and finished it with even more passion. It took a total of over 56 hours to finished this painting (over 5 months break because of dried up inspiration).

Procrastination? NO! NO!!

Thank you.
