The $7 worthwhile 'investment' I made in art vlogging

This is not just an ordinary accessory but a ‘dream come true’.


I live in a big town (big in the African perspective), but occasionally, there are somethings I cannot find in the shops. I remember going to many big mobile phone accessories shops and asking for a phone-stand but all of the retailers looked at me like am crazy (because they couldn’t understand what I was asking for and didn’t have it after I showed them internet images of the item)… It reminds me of a time in 2008 when I actually bought the last canvas in town as all the art supply store didn’t have any and all the artist studio had use up all of theirs. I was going from studio to studio begging artist to sell a yard of canvas and they all confessed to not have (that was 2008).


So today, I finally got this selfie phone-stand which would make it easy for me to Vlog and even shoot live creative studio sessions. For those of us that don’t know, video is the next revolution in social media and online publicity. I recently noticed that a 10 minutes live video often get more out reach than a single post on FaceBook (because the website in their attempt to encourage interaction, sends notifications that a live video-event is on).


In due time, after I have saved up, I would get studio (photographic) lights, a more professional stand, microphone and even a camera. But for now, I would make use of what I have (which is more than enough to transmit my messages).


I immediately put it to work and have made my first ever Vlog post. As Brian Tracy would say, small adjustments can make a huge difference (the winning EDGE could literally just be an inch, meaning the difference between the 1st and 2nd in a race could just be am inch defence). Here, a $7 accessory (I bought online) was the difference.

My latest Ballpoint Pen Drawing (September 2015)

Recently I left one of my ‘base’ in Delta State back to Bauchi in a hurry and forgot my faded blue towel behind.

Anyway, the above picture is a recent sketch I made at its early stage of development. At the top left side of the picture is a folded piece of tissue paper that I use to clean the tip of the pen while I draw. The ballpoint pen often overflows when I sketch with it for too long (I use to use the towel but have found an alternative).

Below is the ‘completed’ biro sketch of the above picture.

 

To avoid accidentally staining the white paper with hand w(hile working), I use a folded sheet of paper instead of my regular towel (a method/tradition I sometimes use).

The faded blue towel

Yesterday, I was going through my past blog post. Apart from the numerous grammatical blunders, I noticed that a faded blue towel was featured in most of the photographs in my post.

I bought the towel a few years ago for the sole purpose of using it for biro sketches. Often times, the ink in the pen over flows so I wipe the tip of the ballpoint pen with the towel. The second purpose of the towel is to cover/protect white paper from getting stained.

I think it is time to get a new one (something more presentable). I might convert this to my painting rage for my watercolour (using it to dry/clean the brush). I have used it for almost ten years and have carried it where ever I travelled in those years.

After 6 weeks break, behold a sketch.

On biro-sketch.blogspot.com today (29th November 2012), I ended my 6 weeks blogging 'strike' with a photo of a miniature figurative pen sketch http://biro-sketch.blogspot.com/2012/11/mini-sketch-of-female-figure.html


Until today, I haven't publish anything on the blog since October and this is due to the fact that I have been extremely busy. In fact, I nolonger answer my phone calls after 4pm. (because, it is mostly someone trying to encroach into my tight schedule, or one of my many fair-weather-friends trying to 'borrow' money they intend NOT to pay back).


I'm not only on a tight schedule, I am also on a tight budget...

So, the things I suppose to pay someone to do for me, I end up doing it myself because I can't afford the service of a hired professional. So, after closing from my days-job, I would still have a 'truck-load' of domestic works to complete.
